Ru aka Ruben Cobos is the visionary behind the success of independent record label Ru1 Records. Since the age of 17, Ru has managed every facet of his independent label; studio recording, producing, engineering, street promotion, internet promotion, negotiation and management. He blends his understanding of all aspects along with his style and approach. Now, with the release of his new single, “Nothing New”, he shows off his rhyming skills as well. Many in the industry who know Ru as a business man, are surprised to learn how talented he is as a front man. But for the detractors and haters, Ru gives us a telling look inside his mindset when working on his music. “You wanna learn from Ru1, you’d better watch. I take risks so on my wrist is a better watch.” Fabolous’ lyrics lets those who are not sure what to make of the transition “…You ain’t competition, you incompetent. And the only thing you can give me is a compliment”.

Ru’s hard earned success has been not been overlooked by the industry. Hot 97’s own DJ Envy featured “Nothing New” on the New At 2 segment on his radio program. All Hip Hop.Com named the single Heater of the Day, a segment that features the music that is creating a buzz in the hip hop industry.

Ru’s street sense and executive business skills has been the key to effectively marketing his music to fans nationally and abroad. With a global fan base, it is obvious that Ru has made a significant impact but this only the beginning. Now that Ru has finally shared his musical skills with the world, his trademark symbolizes the will & desires to become a major force as an artist, while not compromising credibility.

Ru’s Journey Continues as an artist for Ru1 Records.

July 5, 2009

Whoever coined the phrase “never judge a book by its cover” must have had a premonition about record label CEO/producer/rapper Ru when they thought it up. As the head of Ru1 Records and of the Ru1 movement, he and has been considered by most one of the leading businessmen in the music industry, and now begins his journey as an artist. His unique vision has made the music industry stand up and take notice. He now begins a new chapter in the Ru1 Records history book.

Born Ruben Cobos, Ru has always had a love of music and went into the industry at the age of 17. As an emcee, he found his true creative calling. Song writing and producing was important to the budding entrepreneur; however, he had dreams of running his own entertainment empire. Knowing that he had to learn every aspect of the music industry, he became an independent A&R, developing up and coming acts as well as producing. As a nightclub and party promoter he became a local celebrity, taking in his first glimpses of fame. The lessons he learned through these jobs taught him the importance of branding, marketing, and artist development. With the eye of business man and the soul of an artist, he embraced his next venture wholeheartedly.

In 2003, Ru established Ru1 Records. Ru1 Records, backed by a relentless street team, has permeated the East Coast’s underground hip hop market with a vengeance. The labels internet, street presence, and most importantly, fan base, remain unmatched. The label received Underground Music Awards for four years in a row. Under Ru’s guidance, the label has become a powerful force in the music industry.

Having made his dream come true as a music mogul, Ru’s creative juice began flowing once again. While working with many artists and producers he started writing and recording once again. The end result is his debut album “For the Love of Money”. The album gives us in depth look at the soul of Ru. It sheds new light on what everyone has come to expect of the artist.

The first single “Nothing New” features Fabolous. On this track Ru and Fabolous detract all of the haters and let everyone know that those who go up against Ru1 Records aren’t “saying nothing new”. Ru recognizes the hate and feeds off it, leaving those who stand wondering how it is possible to be that successful behind. Ru raps “You wanna learn from Ru1, you’d better watch. I take risks so on my wrist is a better watch.” The song has already received mainstream airplay and the buzz on the streets is that “Nothing New” is going to be the summer’s hottest new single.

Ru and Ru1 Records have always been the independent music industry’s standard of excellence. Now with Ru stepping out into the spotlight, the industry will be reinvigorated once again. His presence as a business man has the music industry up in arms. Raised to be unapologetic and independent Ru is poised to be a threat to status quo of hip hop music.
